How to understand charger statuses

Chargers may have several statuses in the ChargeLab app:

When you are using the app at a charger:

Status Description
Available Charger is online, available, and not in use
Preparing Charger is authorizing or waiting to be plugged into a car
Charging EV is actively drawing power
Finishing The “Stop” button in the app was tapped but the transaction hasn’t stopped
Coming Soon The charger’s deployment is in progress
Paused Charging of the EV is paused (due to a vehicle schedule setting or otherwise)
Offline Charger has disconnected (connectivity or power)
Out of Order Charger is connected, but reporting as unavailable

Common Mistakes & Troubleshooting

  • This means that the charger has not yet completed deployment and is not ready to initiate a charge.
    • If you are not the owner of the device, we suggest locating an alternative charger here.
  • Contact Support and request that the charger be rebooted.
  • This indicates that it is presently disconnected from the power source or the internet.
    • If you are not the owner of the charger:
      • Check if the charger is powered on but not visibly showing any signs. Try plugging the charger into your car to see if it starts charging automatically or if you can start the charge using the app if it doesn't start automatically.
      • Find an alternative charger here.
    • If you own the charger:
      • Make sure the charger is plugged in. If not, plug it in and try again.
      • Check if the circuit breaker is tripped, which may be preventing the charger from getting power. If the breaker is tripped, reset it and try again.
      • If the display shows that power is available, refer to a troubleshooting guide for connectivity here.
  • This means that the charger is connected but reporting as unavailable.
    • This situation may occur when a session times out, for example, when the cable is left plugged in for more than 90 seconds without initiating a successful charging process.
    • This can happen when there are hardware or electrical faults. Many of these faults can be fixed with a reboot, but some may require more troubleshooting to determine the root cause. The charger may also show an error code on the screen or illuminate a fault light.
