1. Introduction and Unboxing

The Grizzl-E Smart Charger is a durable, Wi-Fi-enabled EV charger designed for efficiency and reliability. Key features include:

2. Installation Planning and Electrical Requirements

2.1 Electrical Requirements
  • 208-240 V single-phase dedicated circuit.
  • 40 A output (default): requires a 50 A circuit.
  • 32 A output: requires a 40 A circuit.
  • 24 A output: requires a 30 A circuit.
  • 16 A output: requires a 20 A circuit.
  • Grounding: Ensure the charger is grounded via permanent wiring or an equipment grounding conductor.
2.2 Safety Instructions
  • Turn off power before installing or adjusting the charger.
  • Adhere to the National Electric Code (NEC) or the Canadian Electric Code.

3. Adjustable Maximum Output Current

The charger allows you to configure the maximum output current to suit your circuit.

Steps:

  1. Turn off the charger’s power.
  2. Remove the front cover using the provided Allen key.
  3. Adjust the DIP switches:
    • 40 A (default): UP-UP-UP-DOWN.
    • 32 A: UP-DOWN-UP-DOWN.
    • 24 A: UP-UP-DOWN-DOWN.
    • 16 A: UP-DOWN-DOWN-DOWN.
  4. Replace and secure the cover with the provided screws.

4. Installation

4.1 Required Tools
  • Phillips screwdriver.
  • Allen keys (included).
  • Anchors and screws (included).
4.2 Mounting the Charger
  1. Separate the mounting bracket into two pieces.
  2. Attach the front bracket to the charger’s back using countersunk screws.
  3. Mount the rear bracket to the wall or a suitable support (24–48 inches from the ground).
  4. Mount the NEMA outlet (20–26 inches from the ground).
  5. Secure the charger by assembling the two bracket pieces and inserting the safety pin or external lock.

5. Wiring and Electrical Connection

5.1 Plug-In Installation
  • Connect the charger via a NEMA 14-50 or NEMA 6-50 outlet.
5.2 Hardwiring (Optional)
  1. Disconnect power and remove the charger’s front cover.
  2. Remove the plug and route the input wires through the conduit.
  3. Connect the wires:
    • Red: L1.
    • Black: L2.
    • Green: Ground.
  4. Secure the wiring and reattach the cover.

6. Cable Management with EasyEvPlug™ Holster

  • Attach the holster to the wall using the provided screws.
  • Insert the charging connector into the holster.
  • Wrap the cable neatly around the holster.

7. Status Indicators and Faults

7.1 LED Indicators
  • Alternating Blue/Magenta: Charger ready but not connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Alternating Blue/Cyan: Charger ready and connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Flashing Green: Charging in progress.
  • Flashing Red: Fault detected.
7.2 Common Fault Codes
  • 1 Red Flash: Ground fault - AC Line 1.
  • 2 Red Flashes: High GFCI leakage.
  • 3 Red Flashes: Relay stuck.
  • 10 Red Flashes: Overcurrent.
7.3 Resetting the Charger
  1. Unplug the charger.
  2. Turn off the breaker, wait 1–2 minutes, then restore power.
  3. If the issue persists, contact Grizzl-E support.

8. Smart Configuration

8.1 Wi-Fi Requirements
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network with a signal strength of -67 dBm or better.
8.2 Connecting to ChargeLab
  1. Download the ChargeLab app.
  2. Create an account, add your charger, and connect to the UC_Smart_[ChargerSerial#] network.
8.3 Wi-Fi Troubleshooting
  • Ensure the charger is within range of a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify that the Wi-Fi password is correct.
  • Disable any firewalls that may block the charger.

9. Disconnecting Wi-Fi

  1. Unplug the charger and reset the Wi-Fi using the DIP switch.
  2. Reconnect to Wi-Fi via the ChargeLab app.

10. Charging Operation

10.1 Starting a Charge
  • Insert the connector into the EV, ensuring it is locked.
  • Charging begins automatically (may take up to 30 seconds).
10.2 Stopping a Charge
  • Press the release button and remove the connector from the EV.
  • Store the connector in the holster.

11. Maintenance

  • Clean the charger with a soft cloth.
  • Store the cable properly to prevent damage.
  • Avoid submerging the charger in water.
  • Contact support if components are damaged.
